Elements started out as a dream, to provide a safe place for the youth of our community to be able to hang out and have fun. Elements gives them an alternative to the pressures of teenage life and is there to help them with concerns, questions and problems that they face. Elements started to take shape in March 2006, when a group of ambitious visionaries stepped up and began to put this dream in motion.

One of the first steps was to form Kalona Youth Organization (KYO). KYO oversees and keeps Elements running. KYO approached the City of Kalona in June requesting to rent the old Kalona library (where Elements is now located). July 1 marked the start of a massive overhaul of the building and we opened our doors on November 17 2006, thanks to all of the people who donated time, money and/or equipment.

Why the name Elements?

A persons element is the sphere in which they are most comfortable. An element in general is a basic component. People are biologically composed of a few basic elements, and in turn are elements of relationships, which in turn make up our society. We desire to see a place where youth can be real with each other and build new relationships.
